It was an unusual year for Dhoni. By association, the India and Chennai Super Kings captain was caught in the maze of corruption surrounding cricket. While that matter is in court, and pending resolution, on the field, too, it was a mixed bag. Although CSK couldn't make the Indian Premier League finals, Dhoni led his team to victory in the Champions League T20. His below-par Test batting average of 31 reflected the team's poor form, especially in away matches, where the young team capitulated in South Africa, New Zealand and England. India did salvage some pride on the limited overs front, reaching the final of the World T20 (losing to Sri Lanka) and fighting back against England in the ODIs that followed the humiliating Test series defeat.
