Dr. Dre net worth: Dr. Dre is an american rapper, actor, entrepreneur
and producer who has a net worth of $810 million. Born Andre Romelle
Young, Dre was raised in South Central Los Angeles during the budding
West coast hip-hop scene. Dre frequented nightclubs where he learned to
DJ and became a member of electro-hop group World Class Wreckin' Cru, in
1984. After meeting fellow rapper Ice Cube, Dr. Dre joined rap project
N.W.A. run by rapper Eazy-E under Ruthless Records and released the
debut album "Straight Outta Compton", in 1988. Violent, profane and
undeniably groundbreaking, Straight Outta Compton would eventually be
certified double platinum and would go down in music history as one of
the most pivotal albums for hip-hop.
Three years later, Dre left
N.W.A. and co-founded Death Row Records with Suge Knight. Dre soon
released his first solo album, The Chronic, which soared to number three
on the Billboard 200 and went multi-platinum less than a year later.
The album also earned Dr. Dre a Grammy for Best Rap Performance for the
single, "Let Me Ride". In 1996, Dre established Aftermath Entertainment
where would soon produce and showcase numerous talents such as
Eminem,
Mary J. Blige, and 50 Cent. His talent extends to film, with Dre appearing in films like Set It Off and Training Day.
Beats By Dre Sale
In 2008, Dre was commissioned by Monster Cable Products to design a
line of premium headphones. He would eventually co-found and co-own the
headphone company "Beats by Dre" alongside Interscope Chairman Jimmy
Iovine. On May 28, 2014, Apple Inc officially confirmed that it was
acquiring Beats by Dre for
$3 billion ($2.6 billion in
cash and $400 million in stock). At the time of the sale, Dre owned 25%
of Beats. That means his personal stake would be worth $750 million
before taxes, which is roughly $500 million after taxes. When combined
with Dre's separate $280 million fortune from music, he was officially
worth
$780 million after taxes when the deal closed.
